Inspiration photo - existing beach cottage

In this new beachfront home overlooking Chilmark Cliffs on Martha's Vineyard, the owners were adamant about maintaining a simplistic, rustic look with clean lines so familiar to the context of the island.  It was important to the homeowners to create a special, laid-back and comfortable place that they could enjoy with their family year round.  Drawing inspiration from a small, existing beach cottage found on this site, this new home keeps true to it's humble and simplistic roots by utilizing the exposed stud aesthetic reminiscent of a simple beach structure.  In order to fit in with the existing nearby homes and to maintain the context of the homes on the island, the home was designed as a one-story residence with cedar shakes and stone so familiar to the area.  On the interior, crisp, white shiplap sets a dramatic backdrop for dark stained mahogany windows which frame the incredible views to the ocean beyond.
